Circa: Eighteenth or Nineteenth Century
Height: 5 cm.
This outstanding enamel on copper snuff bottle depicts European ladies and children in an elegant landscape setting. The artist has used brilliant famille rose colors with a yellow base. The choice of yellow reflects its importance as the Imperial color is reserved exclusively for the Qianlong Emperor. There is a long tradition of European influence in the arts and sciences in the Imperial Court.
In our opinion, the subject matter, workmanship and material suggest an 18th-19th century date for this outstanding snuff bottle.
With gilt gold stopper
Note: There is a minor chip to the enamel decoration on one shoulder.
