Cameo Agate with Foo Lions Playing Snuff Bottle

This fine agate snuff bottle is of flattened ovoid form with flat shoulders and a raised foot. The stopper is rendered from a matching white agate. The artist has skillfully used the natural brown coloration to depict two brown foo lions plating with a brocade ribbon ball. Particular attention has been paid to the glossy polish of the bottle’s surface. In our opinion, the subject matter, matterial and workmanship indicate a late In our opinion, this agate snuff bottle is a fine example of late eighteenth to early nineteenth century period design and workmanship.
