Taopie Mask Pendant
Russet and Pale Celadon Jade
Ming Dynasty
Length 1.5 inches (3.8 cm)
This pendant is a miniaturization of a Taopie mask. The carving shows two dragons kissing. Their scales clearly incised. They sit atop a hairy face with bushy brows with rather haunting eyes. The material consists of mostly russet jade topping pale celadon. There are parts which have been calcified from prolonged burial. The pendant includes several small holes which can allow it to be worn as a necklace.
