This delightful piece depicts the Immortal Liu Hai together with his three legged toad. Liu Hai holds a string of bronze cash to lure the toad. Once captured, Liu Hai rides the three legged magical toad to the Moon.
The piece is worked from a white boulder of nephrite jade with deep brown areas. The face of Liu Hai is especially well rendered. In our opinion the subject matter. Workmanship and material suggest a Qing Dynasty date for this delightful work of art.
