This remarkable figure of the Goddess of Mercy, Guan Yin is rendered from the exquisite aromatic chenxiangmu or aloe wood. The Goddess is depicting in a contemplative posture with eyes closed, arm resting on a stack of Chinese bound books. The piece has an overall deep brown patination. In our opinion, the subject matter, workmanship and material suggest a Qing Dynasty date for this work of art.
