Open Mouth Vase with Scholar and Attendant

Height: 9.25 inches
Circa: Late Eighteenth Century

Open mouth flared vase with recessed foot. Low relief depicting a Sage with attendant in a landscape setting with a tea pavillion on a rock ledge. Pine trees and clouds together with rock ledges form the subject of the body of the vase. The coloration is celadon green with brown and black markings in the jade material. The piece is well hollowed resulting in a pleasant luminosity. The original shape of the stone allows for a graceful proportion between the neck, shoulders and foot. In our opinion, the subject matter, material and workmanship suggest an Eighteenth century date for this elegant piece.
