This delightful and elegant jade animal is depicted striding with open mouth. The nephrite jade is icy white with deep russet red markings. The piece has a characteristic high gloss polish typical of jades worked in the second half of the Eighth century. The subject matter, workmanship and dramatic material suggest a second half of the 18th. century date for this remarkable work of art.
Together with a yellow silk fitted base with contrasting blue coloration.
