Blue & White Porcelain Snuff Bottle

Circa 1800-1859
Height: 9cm

This is a porcelain round bodied bottle, well made with a blue and white glaze depicting various figures from Chinese literature. This handsome bottle has an interesting history. Mr. Frank Volkert of Chicago was a jade and snuff bottle collector from Chicago. He loaned his significant collection to the Mint Museum in Charlotte. At the time of his passing, his family donated the collection to the museum. They believed that his obsession with jade collecting somehow contributed to his passing! Ashkenazie & Co. acquired the entire collection from the Mint Museum in 1974. Today, Volkert jades are scattered around the world in various public and private collections. In our opinion the subject matter, workmanship and material suggest a 1800-1850 date for this bottle.

Formerly in the Mint Museum, Charlotte, The Frank Volkert Collection, Chicago,
