Ming Dynasty (明朝)
Length: 3 inches
Grey black nephrite jade
This grey-black nephrite jade archaistic sword slide was intended to fit onto the scabbard of a long sword. The grey black jade material is typical of the Ming dynasty when supplies of jade boulders from Khotan were constrained.
The front side shows a finely rendered rice grain pattern. The coloration of this slide is quite dramatic. In our opinion the subject matter, material and workmanship suggest a Ming dynasty date for this work of art.
